Firstly, as mentioned in my last email to everyone on my mailchimp list, I have switched over to Substack now as my main mailing platform… so if anyone has unsubscribed from my list since my previous mail out, then I apologise as you will also need to unsubscribe from this one as well!
Right… on to the main topic of this post. Issue 15 of DIG Mag is now ready to pre-order from my website.
The pre-orders will run throughout December with the aim to begin distribution by the second week of January 2024.
As mentioned before, this will be the final regular print edition of DIG, and it’s a bumper issue, 56 pages with more than 30 contributions from old and new diggers!
Also, to celebrate the final issue, previous contributor and producer-extraordinaire Smoove has given me a complete set of his Multitrack Reworks 12” edits to give away to one lucky DIG reader!
Smoove began this project during lockdown whilst searching for multitrack drum breaks he could sample.
I had a few MT stems but one that really jumped out at me was the Grace Jones - Slave To The Rhythm parts with its sloppy looped/ live go go drums and brilliant orchestral arrangements. Within 24 hours I had reconnected the whole song and mixed all the parts to level I was happy with. At the time all I was thinking is I would play my mix on my radio show ‘The Nothern Coal Experience’ but it had such a great response so I decided to cut a white label and put another track on flip side - Chaka Khan - Clouds.
Thanks to being championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson and Craig Charles, the release didn’t hang around for long, and that pretty much sets the tone for each subsequent release for the label which includes respectfully and beautifully mixed, extended reworks of classics from other artists including David Bowie, Earth, Wind & Fire, Barry White, Funkadelic, Slave, Johnny Guitar Watson, The Jones Girls, Double Exposure, Marvin Gaye, Willie Hutch and Sly and the Family Stone.

Every pre-order of DIG Mag issue 15 will be entered into a prize draw for one person to win the complete set of Multitrack Reworks.
